The real origin story
These three weren't born as one design — and the 2029 return of a familiar name is worth untangling before you research any of them.
Destiny broke a record in 1996
Carnival Destiny entered New York in November 1996 as the first cruise ship ever built over 100,000 gross tons, breaking a size record held by Queen Elizabeth (the ocean liner) since 1940.
Triumph and Victory were their own class
Contrary to a common assumption, Triumph (1999) and Victory (2000) weren't built to the same design as Destiny — they were built larger, with an extra passenger deck, and classified separately as “Triumph-class” ships at the time.
A 2013–2021 refit program merged them under one name
Carnival's renaming refits — Destiny→Sunshine (2013), Triumph→Sunrise (2019), Victory→Radiance (2020–21) — retroactively grouped all three under the “Sunshine class” branding. They're closer to cousins than born-identical sisters.
Don't confuse her with the NEW Carnival Destiny (2029)
Carnival is reviving the historic “Destiny” name for an entirely new, unrelated ~230,000-ton Ace-class ship debuting in 2029. Carnival Sunshine is the ORIGINAL 1996 Destiny hull — a completely different, much older ship from the one that will carry that name again in a few years.

How the Sunshine Class is actually received
None of the three appears on Cruise Critic's official "Best and Worst Carnival Ships" feature, in either direction. On Cruise Critic's own scores: Sunshine holds a 4.0 out of 5 overall (member sub-scores trending closer to 3.5); Sunrise carries a 4.0 editor score but rougher underlying member sentiment (sub-scores closer to 2.9, with reviews split widely across all five rating tiers); and Radiance shows the class's highest editor score at 4.5, though her own sub-category average sits closer to 3.1 — a real gap between the headline number and the member detail worth knowing before you lean on any single score.
