The 30-second answer
Carnival Freedom is tied with sister ships Valor and Liberty at the top of this five-ship comparison, sailing since 2007. All three score 7.3 on the Seabound Dining Score (weighted 7.275). Freedom carries the richest included roster in the class, adding both Ol' Fashioned BBQ's complimentary lunch station and Mongolian Wok's complimentary stir-fry station on top of everything Conquest and Glory already have. Tied means tied: this guide never describes one ship as ahead of another. The rest of her roster reads like her sisters': Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Pizza Pirate, and Swirls, plus Seafood Shack, her own Sun King Steakhouse, and The Chef's Table. Her Bonsai Sushi Express is the one name that's hers alone.
Posh Restaurant and Chic Restaurant (Decks 3–4) anchor two complimentary Main Dining Rooms — scored once as a single dining concept — with Seaday Brunch served there on sea days. The buffet is Freedom Restaurant / Lido Marketplace on Deck 9. Five free quick-service stops sit around it: Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, The Carnival Deli, Pizza Pirate, and Swirls. Add the sea-day Chicken and Waffles lunch item, Ol' Fashioned BBQ, Mongolian Wok, Cherry on Top, the Taste Bar, and Room Service.
Two specialty restaurants round out the top end: Sun King Steakhouse (Deck 10) and The Chef's Table (Deck 3). Three extra-cost casual stops fill the gap: Seafood Shack, JavaBlue Café, and Bonsai Sushi Express.
All of that lands Freedom at 7.3 (weighted 7.275). The richest included roster in the class is the whole reason for the tied top score. Suite & Restricted Dining sits at a flat 1.0 floor across all five Conquest Class ships — a stated gap, not a rounding footnote. And yes, she just came out of a dry dock. It touched her funnel and casino, not her restaurants (details in section 03).
Freedom's story is a tie, not a lead — she, Valor, and Liberty carry the richest included roster in the class. Ol' Fashioned BBQ and Mongolian Wok are both worth building sea days around. Book Sun King Steakhouse or The Chef's Table early if a specific night matters to you.
The Seabound Dining Scorecard
Eight categories, each judged on its own merits and weighted to a single score — never averaged up from the venue scores below, because a ship with a wide casual bench shouldn't out-score a ship with a handful of excellent restaurants, or vice versa.
Included Dining reads 7.6, and Value reads 7.6 for the same reason. Freedom, Valor, and Liberty all carry Ol' Fashioned BBQ's complimentary lunch station and Mongolian Wok's complimentary stir-fry station, the richest included roster in the class. Both categories sit at the top of this five-ship set on all three tied ships.
Variety reads 7.5, and it isn't spaced as a straight-line average across the five ships. Glory sits at 7.2, Conquest at 7.3, and Freedom, Valor, and Liberty at 7.5. Mongolian Wok is judged a more cuisine-distinct addition than Ol' Fashioned BBQ, so Conquest's 7.3 doesn't land at the midpoint between 7.2 and 7.5. That's an approved editorial judgment call, not a mechanical venue-count formula.
Specialty Dining reads a flat 7.2 on all five ships. The Steakhouse program, Bonsai Sushi Express (or its sister-ship equivalent), and The Chef's Table are identical in substance across the class, and the BBQ and Wok differences that drive Variety don't touch this category. Quality Ceiling reads a flat 8.0, Special Experiences a flat 8.2 (carried entirely by The Chef's Table), and Suite & Restricted Dining a flat 1.0. Casual & Quick Dining reads 7.9, tracking the same BBQ and Wok pattern as Included Dining and Value.
Three Freedom roster items carry no venue score of their own: Seaday Brunch, Cherry on Top, and the Taste Bar. They're listed, and the category scores above already stand. We haven't invented a number for them.
What the 2026 dry dock changed — and didn't
Freedom spent 35 days at Chantier Naval de Marseille, from September 1 to October 8, 2026. Her dining didn't change.
What changed
A new, lower “whale tail” funnel. A redesigned casino with about 100 more gaming machines. A refreshed arcade, updated retail, accessibility improvements, and a new bow crest.
What didn't
Her restaurants and food counters. We found no dining or food-and-beverage changes, and our fresh October 13, 2026 research reconfirms the full roster on this page.
She left the shipyard for Barcelona on October 8. Her first passenger sailing, the actual return to service, was October 9. Both dates are right; they mark different events.
Two sources back the “no dining changes” call. Carnival's own June 2026 culinary press release leaves Freedom out of its new-venue rollout. And five trade reports dated October 8 (CruiseMapper, Cruise Hive, Travel Market Report, Cruise Industry News, and Cruise Critic) describe the refit scope without a single restaurant in it.
We didn't carry the pre-dry-dock roster forward on faith. We re-researched it, and it matched. Her score is built on what sails now.
If you're weighing Freedom against a sister ship for food, the dry dock isn't a reason to hesitate in either direction. Judge her on the roster below.
What's already included
14 of Freedom's 19 listed venues sit in the included tier — two Main Dining Rooms, a buffet, Seaday Brunch, five quick-service stops, the sea-day Chicken and Waffles item, Ol' Fashioned BBQ, Mongolian Wok, Cherry on Top, the Taste Bar, and Room Service. Three of those (Seaday Brunch, Cherry on Top, the Taste Bar) have no separate venue score.
Posh Restaurant and Chic Restaurant (Decks 3–4) anchor the included tier as Freedom's two Main Dining Rooms — scored once as a single functional dining concept, the same way we score every ship with twin dining rooms, not double-counted as two venues. Neither carries a cover charge, and both are full-service, multi-course restaurants open to every guest. Seaday Brunch runs in the Main Dining Room on sea days.
Freedom Restaurant / Lido Marketplace (Deck 9) is the ship's buffet. Past the buffet, five free quick-service stops give the included tier real depth, all on Deck 9: Guy's Burger Joint, Guy Fieri's fleet-wide burger stand; BlueIguana Cantina, build-your-own Mexican; The Carnival Deli; Pizza Pirate; and Swirls, free soft-serve and frozen yogurt, open 24 hours.
Chicken and Waffles is a sea-day lunch item. Trade coverage brands it “Chicken Waffles & Waves” elsewhere, but we didn't find that name on Freedom in any source we checked. We treat it as the same class-wide item already logged on her sisters, not a Freedom-specific variant.
Ol' Fashioned BBQ (Deck 9/10) adds a complimentary lunch station — a real roster difference from Glory, which doesn't carry it. Mongolian Wok (Deck 9) adds a complimentary Asian stir-fry station, shared only with Valor and Liberty. Conquest and Glory don't have it.
Cherry on Top (Deck 5) is the candy and confections shop, and the Taste Bar serves sampler portions from the specialty venues. Both sit in our included tier per the October 13 roster check. We haven't priced either one separately, so confirm in Cruise Manager what a given treat or sampler costs.
Room Service rounds out the tier with 24-hour delivery. Continental breakfast is complimentary from 6am to 10am; upgraded breakfast items and the all-day/late-night menu are à la carte, and bar beverages ordered through room service carry Carnival's 20% service charge.
All 19 venues, explored
Every venue aboard Freedom, filterable — richest, tied with Valor and Liberty, among the five Conquest Class ships. The real story isn't the venue count so much as two complimentary stations: Ol' Fashioned BBQ and Mongolian Wok.
What are you in the mood to pay?
Every dining venue onboard, tagged, sortable, and scored where a venue score exists.
19 venues, 16 venue scores. Seaday Brunch, Cherry on Top, and the Taste Bar are listed without a separate score (shown as n/s), and the category scores already stand. The 8.7 Steakhouse score and the 7.4 sushi score are carried from the class slot, not measured separately for Freedom. See the “What's not aboard” section below for what's deliberately left off this list.
Nothing matches that combination — try a different filter.
The same roster, plotted: what’s included, what costs extra, and how each venue actually scores.
Casual & extra cost
Three venues sit between the included tier and full specialty dining on Freedom — all three are paid, and none is a seated restaurant.
Seafood Shack (Deck 9) is a paid, à la carte casual venue — not included in your fare. JavaBlue Café (Deck 5) is the ship's specialty coffee counter, extra cost per item and not complimentary.
Bonsai Sushi Express (Deck 9) is Freedom's à la carte sushi venue, and it's the name Carnival's current Freedom page uses (its 2019 renovation announcement used the same one). We treat it as an extra-cost casual counter, not a full seated specialty restaurant, so it doesn't raise Specialty Dining or Quality Ceiling. Its 7.4 venue score is carried from the class's à la carte sushi slot, where the four sister pages list a different venue name. It creates no scoring separation between Freedom and her sisters.
Specialty dining
Two specialty restaurants drive Freedom's 7.2 Specialty Dining score — identical to all four of her sisters.
Sun King Steakhouse (Deck 10) runs Carnival's shared Steakhouse program under Freedom's own name. Carnival's Freedom deck plan labels it Sun King, and that's the name we use throughout. A July 2026 sailing report put the price at about $62 per adult. We don't claim an official base price for it. Its 8.7 venue score is the shared program's class score, carried as-is.
The Chef's Table (Deck 3) is present and current on all five ships. Carnival's published reservation information lists the five Conquest Class ships at $114 per person. Confirm current pricing in Cruise Manager.
Bonsai Sushi Express sits outside this specialty count on purpose. It's a paid à la carte counter, and this guide doesn't let it inflate Specialty Dining or Quality Ceiling.
The $62 Sun King figure comes from one July 2026 sailing report, not from Carnival's price list, and the $114 Chef's Table figure is as of October 13, 2026. Check whether any quote you see already includes Carnival's service charge. Confirm current pricing in Cruise Manager before you book.
Special experiences
Special Experiences is Freedom's single strongest category at 8.2 — carried entirely by one venue, and identical to all four sister ships' own 8.2.
The Chef's Table
A single-driver category
The Chef's Table single-handedly sets this category's 8.2 on Carnival Freedom — the same convention we apply wherever one hosted experience effectively is the category. It's a multi-course tasting experience at $114 per person, per Carnival's published reservation information for the five Conquest Class ships. Confirm current pricing in Cruise Manager. Special Experiences is driven by The Chef's Table alone on every Conquest Class ship, so it reads identically at 8.2 across all five.
Special Experiences reads 8.2 because The Chef's Table earns it on its own merits — the same as all four of her sisters. It's one of the categories, alongside Specialty Dining, Quality Ceiling, and Suite & Restricted Dining, that reads identically across the whole five-ship comparison.
Suite & restricted dining
Zero, currently. No ship in this five-ship comparison operates a dedicated suite or access-restricted restaurant, or any breakfast-lounge-style benefit — and this is a visible weakness, not a rounding footnote.
No current suite or access-restricted dining benefit of any kind
No qualifying suite or restricted-dining benefit exists
We found no suite-exclusive or restricted-access venue on Carnival Freedom in any source we checked, and the same holds for the other four ships in this comparison. This category sits at a flat floor score for that reason — priority dining reservations for suite guests, where they exist, don't qualify: they aren't a dining venue in their own right. That absence costs Freedom real points off her total weighted score, a cost this guide doesn't minimize just because the headline still lands at 7.3.
All five Conquest Class ships carry this exact 1.0 Suite & Restricted Dining score — a class-wide gap, not a ship-specific shortfall. It reads identically on Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty, and Freedom.
What's not aboard — or not scored
A few things this guide deliberately leaves off Freedom's scored roster, and why.
Find your fit
Two questions, and a plan built for your sailing rather than everyone's.
What should you actually book?
Your dining personality changes what you should reserve first. Your sailing length changes how much of the 19-venue roster you can realistically work through.
What's your dining personality?
How many nights are you sailing?
Smart moves before you sail
Posh Restaurant and Chic Restaurant are both yours, every night
Two complimentary Main Dining Rooms on Decks 3–4, full service, no cover charge — identical in quality and format to what all four sisters carry.
Seaday Brunch is a sea-day plan, not a port-day one
It runs in the Main Dining Room on sea days. Look for it on your itinerary's sea days and decide the night before.
Ol' Fashioned BBQ is a complimentary lunch station
Listed on Deck 9/10 and worth building a sea day around. Glory is the only sister without it.
Mongolian Wok is a real differentiator, and it's here
Deck 9, shared only with Valor and Liberty. Conquest and Glory don't carry it.
Bonsai Sushi Express is an à la carte counter, not a sushi restaurant
It's a paid, casual option on Deck 9. This guide doesn't score it as equivalent to a seated sushi restaurant.
Confirm specialty prices in Cruise Manager
Sun King Steakhouse (about $62 per adult on one July 2026 report) and The Chef's Table ($114 per person) both need a current-price check. Confirm current pricing in Cruise Manager.
Don't skip her for the dry dock
It changed her funnel, casino, arcade, retail, and bow crest. It didn't change the food. She returned to service October 9, 2026.
There's no suite restaurant on this ship, or on any of her four sisters
No breakfast-lounge-style perk exists either — a stated gap shared across this five-ship comparison.
Carnival Freedom in her class
Freedom, Valor, and Liberty are tied at the top at 7.3; Conquest sits at 7.2; Glory is lightest at 7.1.
Carnival Conquest (2002), Carnival Glory (2003), Carnival Valor (2004), Carnival Liberty (2005), and Carnival Freedom (2007) make up the five Conquest Class ships this guide scores. Freedom is tied outright with Valor and Liberty at 7.3 (weighted 7.275). Tied means tied, and this guide doesn't rank one ahead of another anywhere. All three carry Ol' Fashioned BBQ and Mongolian Wok, the richest included roster in the class. Conquest sits in the middle at 7.2 (weighted 7.200), and Glory is lightest at 7.1 (weighted 7.130). Specialty Dining, Quality Ceiling, Special Experiences, and Suite & Restricted Dining read identically across all five.
2007 · Richest, tied with Valor and Liberty. BBQ and Wok both aboard.
Sister shipCarnival Glory · 7.12003 · Lightest of the five: neither BBQ nor Wok.
Sister shipCarnival Conquest · 7.22002 · Middle of the five: BBQ, but no Wok.
Sister shipCarnival Valor · 7.32004 · Richest, tied with Freedom and Liberty. BBQ and Wok both aboard.
Sister shipCarnival Liberty · 7.32005 · Richest, tied with Freedom and Valor. BBQ and Wok both aboard.
Freedom's roster lists Seaday Brunch, Cherry on Top, and the Taste Bar, which the four sister pages don't list. None has a venue score, and the category scores don't move on their account. The five-ship comparison now matches the full Conquest Class.
Carnival Conquest Class joins the site's Princess, Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian, Disney, Royal Caribbean, Virgin Voyages, and Carnival Dream/Vista/Excel Class guides as its own ecosystem, not a ranked comparison against them.
Quick answers
Why does Carnival Freedom score 7.3 on the Seabound Dining Score?
Carnival Freedom's 7.3 headline (weighted 7.275) ties her with sister ships Valor and Liberty at the top of this five-ship set. Freedom carries both Ol' Fashioned BBQ's complimentary lunch station and Mongolian Wok's complimentary stir-fry station, the richest included roster in the class, which is why Included Dining (7.6), Variety (7.5), Value (7.6), and Casual & Quick Dining (7.9) each read at the top. Specialty Dining (7.2), Quality Ceiling (8.0), Special Experiences (8.2), and Suite & Restricted Dining (1.0) read identically across all five ships.
Does Carnival Freedom have Ol' Fashioned BBQ?
Yes. Ol' Fashioned BBQ is a complimentary BBQ lunch station listed on Deck 9/10 and confirmed in our October 13, 2026 roster check. Sister ships Conquest, Valor, and Liberty carry it too. Glory is the one ship in the five-ship set without it.
Does Carnival Freedom have Mongolian Wok?
Yes. Mongolian Wok is a complimentary Asian stir-fry station on Deck 9, confirmed in our October 13, 2026 roster check. Sister ships Valor and Liberty carry it too. It's absent from both Conquest and Glory.
What is Bonsai Sushi Express, and is it a full sushi restaurant?
No, and this guide doesn't score it as one. Bonsai Sushi Express is Freedom's à la carte sushi venue on Deck 9, and it's the name Carnival's current Freedom page uses. It costs extra by the item. We treat it as an extra-cost casual counter, not a seated specialty restaurant, so it doesn't raise Specialty Dining or Quality Ceiling. Its 7.4 venue score is carried from the class's à la carte sushi slot, not measured separately, and it creates no scoring separation between Freedom and her sisters.
What do The Chef's Table and Sun King Steakhouse cost on Carnival Freedom?
The Chef's Table is $114 per person, based on Carnival's published reservation information for the five Conquest Class ships. Sun King Steakhouse, on Deck 10, ran about $62 per adult on a July 2026 sailing report. We don't claim an official base price for it. Confirm current pricing in Cruise Manager.
Does Carnival Freedom have a suite or restricted dining restaurant?
No. We found no suite-exclusive or restricted-access venue on Carnival Freedom in any source we checked. Priority dining reservations for suite guests, where they exist, don't count as a qualifying benefit. Suite & Restricted Dining sits at a flat 1.0 floor score, identical across all five ships in this class.
How does Carnival Freedom compare to her Conquest Class sisters?
Freedom is tied with Valor and Liberty at the top of this five-ship set. All three publish 7.3 (weighted 7.275), and this guide doesn't rank any of them ahead of another. Conquest sits in the middle at 7.2 (weighted 7.200), and Glory is the lightest at 7.1 (weighted 7.130). Freedom, Valor, and Liberty carry both Ol' Fashioned BBQ and Mongolian Wok. Conquest has the BBQ but not the Wok, and Glory has neither. Every other scored category reads identically across all five ships.
Did Carnival Freedom's 2026 dry dock change her dining?
No. Freedom was in dry dock at Chantier Naval de Marseille from September 1 to October 8, 2026, left the yard for Barcelona on October 8, and returned to service with her first passenger sailing on October 9. The work covered a new lower funnel, a redesigned casino, a refreshed arcade, updated retail, accessibility improvements, and a new bow crest. We found no dining or food-and-beverage changes. Carnival's June 2026 culinary press release leaves Freedom out of its new-venue rollout, and our fresh October 13 roster check matches the roster on this page.
