Liberty of the Seas arrived in 2007 as the second of three near-identical sisters. A 2016 refurbishment brought The Perfect Storm racing waterslides, the Tidal Wave boomerang slide and Splashaway Bay, and a Royal Amplified refit finished on May 29, 2026 added Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, El Loco Fresh, Starbucks, two Lime & Coconut bars, an escape room, a larger casino and new cabins.
The 2026 work refreshed the pool deck, dining, casino and kids’ club; most cabins and bathrooms are still of their 2007 era. And the hardware that actually decides a family holiday — the surf simulator, the ice rink, the Promenade, the rock wall and the slides — is identical to her sisters’. You are usually paying less for the same day.
This is the ship to book when you have run the numbers. Liberty gives you the full Freedom-class toolkit with the class’s newest refit. If a sister sailing the same week is a few hundred dollars cheaper across a family of four, ask whether the new dining and pool deck are worth that to you — if not, take the money — it buys a balcony upgrade, or a night in the port city, or simply stays in your account.

Four- and five-night runs through the Western Caribbean from Galveston from late October 2026, after a summer season from Southampton. Port calls vary by sailing. Deployment shifts season to season — confirm the specific cruise.

For a large part of the southern and central United States, a Gulf homeport removes four airfares from the trip. On a family of four that saving frequently exceeds the entire fare gap between this ship and a newer one — which is the single strongest argument for booking her.

New public spaces, original cabins. The May 2026 amplification refreshed the pool deck, dining, casino and kids’ club; most staterooms and bathrooms are still of their 2007 era.
A 2007 hull. Cabins and bathrooms are of their era. The public spaces hide it better than the staterooms do.
No neighborhoods. No Central Park, no Boardwalk, no Surfside — structural features that no refit can add.
Fewer specialty restaurants. A shorter line-up than the newer classes. If dining variety is the point of your holiday, this is the wrong ship.
The verdict
Book her if the fare gap to her sisters is meaningful; you can drive to her homeport; you want the complete Freedom-class experience for the lowest number; or you are booking a larger family where per-person savings multiply fast.
Skip her if you want Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen or Playmakers — those are on Freedom; you need the neighborhoods and the AquaTheater; or you are sailing somewhere cold, where the Quantum Class is the better tool.
Our actual position: Liberty is the honest value pick of the class, and the maths is usually decisive for larger families. The hardware that makes a Freedom-class holiday good is on all three sisters — so if she is meaningfully cheaper for a better itinerary or a closer port, book her and spend the difference on the cabin.
