Why Discovery Princess, specifically
Classes end in one of two ways: they fade out, or they finish. Royal Class finished. Discovery Princess, delivered in 2022, is the deliberate last hull of a six-ship program — the version built after every lesson the previous five could teach, closing a production run that began when her eldest sister was christened by a duchess in 2013. Buying the closer means buying the class at its most debugged.
She also represents something the first three sisters can't: a Royal-class ship with no memory of life before the Medallion. The disc had debuted on Regal in 2017, five years before Discovery carried her first guest, so nothing aboard was ever adapted, converted or retrofitted — the noticing machinery is simply how she has always run. Within a class defined by its mid-life technology surgery, the youngest sister skipped the operating theater entirely.
And then the fact we verified with our own snapshot: in July 2026 she was one of eight Princess ships calling at Skagway — a month in which Princess out-shipped every other line in the port — and her calls ran fourteen hours, 06:00 to 20:00, tied with Royal Princess for the class's longest. For a ship named Discovery, a schedule that maximizes time ashore is pleasingly on-brand.
