Istanbul turns ships around in real numbers. Euronews counted 128,908 home-port passengers here from January to July 2026, more than any other Turkish port.
They board at Galataport, the waterfront development in Karaköy. The terminal is underground — 29,000 m² of it — and handles three ships and 15,000 passengers a day, per Galataport. Above it sits a public promenade.
For US cruisers the lines that matter are fewer. Oceania and Regent list voyages that start here on their own sites, and Viking ends voyages here. MSC runs winter weeks, and AROYA homeports here too, but those are lines US cruisers book less often.
This page is for starting or ending a cruise here. If your ship only calls for the day, our Istanbul port-day guide covers the walk into town and our shore excursion picks cover the tours.
Lines starting or ending cruises here in 2026–27
Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced, and it lives only here.
Checked on October 19, 2026 — Oceania’s, Regent’s and Viking’s items come from the lines themselves; MSC and AROYA come from press reports, so confirm before you book around them.
Oceania’s Allura sailed from Istanbul to Barcelona (Tarragona) on October 17, 2026, and Sirena leaves for Venice on November 12, 2026, both boarding from 13:00 and sailing at 17:00, per Oceania. A Taoticket listing shows more Oceania starts here on Sirena, Nautica and Marina from May to October 2027. Regent’s Seven Seas Voyager boards here on November 27, 2026, for Athens, and Seven Seas Navigator leaves on January 15, 2027; Seven Seas Mariner ends a voyage here on September 29–30, 2027, per Regent. Viking ends its 29-day Lisbon to Istanbul voyage (2026) and its 36-day Grand Mediterranean Explorer (2027) here, per its June 2025 announcement.
MSC runs seven-night MSC Orchestra weeks from Istanbul to Greece and Italy from November 2026 to April 2027, per Euronews. AROYA homeports here from October 10, 2026, to April 24, 2027, per Euronews and Cruise Industry News. Pick the ship first; the night follows from it.

Where you can go
From Istanbul most sailings head down the Aegean to the Greek islands and Athens, then up the Adriatic to Kotor, Dubrovnik and Venice, or across to Italy. The ports below are named on the sailings we found; one voyage won’t call at all of them.

Entry: the US State Department says Americans need no visa for 90 days or less on a tourist passport, with six months’ validity beyond the date you arrive and one blank page. Türkiye’s consulate in Los Angeles says the same 90-in-180-day exemption. Türkiye isn’t in the Schengen area, so the EU’s EES and ETIAS don’t apply here. The State Department rates Türkiye Level 2, exercise increased caution, citing terrorism, armed conflict and arbitrary detentions, in an advisory issued June 9, 2026; it says don’t travel within 10 km of the Syria and Iraq borders, far from Istanbul. Our Istanbul port-day guide has more detail.

Galataport’s underground terminal
Galataport puts the whole cruise process underground. Check-in, passport control and customs sit in a 29,000 m² terminal below the promenade, per Galataport, and taxis, minibuses and tour buses come in underground too.
When a ship is in, 176 hatches, each 3 m high, rise to close off the customs area; when it leaves, the promenade is public again. The quay takes three ships and 15,000 passengers a day, and the terminal stores up to 15,000 bags on 1,200 m of conveyor.
What isn’t published matters too. Galataport prints no check-in hours and no walk-in route for embarking passengers, and Azamara says terminal assignments come closer to the sail date. Oceania boards from 13:00 on its Istanbul starts — go by your own documents.

Sources: galataport.com, Azamara’s Istanbul Galata Port directions, Cunard and oceaniacruises.com, read October 19, 2026. We found no published check-in hours for the terminal. Confirm with your line — the quay can change with the ship.
Parking, in short
Galataport has an underground car park for 2,400 vehicles, open 24 hours, charged after 30 minutes. It publishes no hourly rate and no cruise rate. Azamara says parking is paid, and that driving in from the airport isn’t recommended.
Some of our hotels list parking for your stay, from free (The Peninsula, Pera Palace, Four Seasons Sultanahmet, Amira) to TRY 500 a day at Swissôtel — none says it covers a cruise. Fly in, and take a taxi.
Getting here
Istanbul Airport (IST) is a long way out. Cunard puts it about 40 km and roughly 40 minutes from the terminal; Guided Istanbul Tours says about 45 km and 40 to 50 minutes by taxi. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), on the Asian side, is about 40 km away too, 40 minutes to an hour, per Cunard.
| From | Taxi | Public transport |
|---|---|---|
| IST — airport to the terminal | On the meter: 71.94 lira to start and 47.92 lira a km since July 20, 2026, per Habertürk. By our arithmetic, about 2,000 to 2,250 lira for 40 to 45 km, before tolls. | Havaist’s Sultanahmet line, 470 lira, per Havaist, stops at Şişhane and Sirkeci; the M11 metro runs to Gayrettepe. Neither reaches the terminal without a change. |
| SAW — Sabiha Gökçen | Same meter, about 40 km, per Cunard. | Shuttles to Taksim every half hour, about 90 minutes, or a bus to Kadıköy and the 20-minute ferry to Kabataş, per the airport. |
| Old city hotels | A short taxi across the Galata Bridge. | The T1 tram stops at Tophane, a few blocks from the terminal, per our port-day guide. |

The State Department suggests ride-share apps in Istanbul, where it says traditional taxis can overcharge. Istanbul Airport to the ship has the rest.
The night before, ranked: we’ve scored twelve hotels for the night before an Istanbul cruise, from Karaköy by the ship to the airport, on what each one publishes. None runs a ride to the ship. Five worth knowing:
| Hotel | Where | One thing to know |
|---|---|---|
| Novotel Bosphorus | Kemankeş Caddesi, Karaköy | An indoor pool and a hammam about 300 m from the terminal, and it takes pets. |
| Burdock | Kemeraltı Caddesi, Karaköy | A pool and a spa about 350 m away; not for children under 12, per Marriott. |
| The Peninsula | Kemankeş Caddesi, inside Galataport | The splurge inside Galataport, with two 25-m pools. |
| Hotel Amira | Mustafa Paşa Sokak, Sultanahmet | Old-city value, with an airport shuttle at €75 a car. |
| YOTEL Airport | Departures floor, Istanbul Airport | A cabin inside the airport, for a late landing. |
