Cruises From Osaka and Kobe

Osaka and Kobe start cruises, but mostly small-ship and luxury ones. The big US lines we checked only call here; Seabourn, Silversea, Ponant, Windstar, Azamara and Regent are the ones that board passengers.

Five ways into this guide

Go straight to the question you came with. Each card jumps to its answer.

01

In brief

“Osaka/Kobe” is one itinerary label for two cities. Osaka boards at Tempozan, beside the Kaiyukan aquarium. Kobe, about 14 miles (22 km) west across the bay, boards at Naka Pier by Meriken Park or, for bigger ships, at Kobe Port Terminal on Shinko Pier No. 4.

Most US cruisers meet this port mid-voyage. Princess, Celebrity, Holland America and Royal Caribbean all start their Japan cruises in Tokyo or Yokohama on the listings we read, and call here for Kyoto. Who actually starts here is a shorter list — luxury and small-ship lines, often one-way to Tokyo, Busan or Singapore.

So treat this as a fly-in-to-join port. Book the flight around the ship, not the other way round. If your ship is only calling, our Osaka/Kobe port-day guide covers the berths and our shore excursion picks cover the Kyoto arithmetic.

02

Who starts or ends cruises here in 2026–27

Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated, sourced and kept here. Almost every date below comes from a third-party listing, not the line.

Current as of October 20, 2026

Checked October 20, 2026. These are voyage departure dates from Osaka or Kobe, not port calls.

Osaka: Seabourn Encore leaves October 22, 2026 for Tokyo and November 15, 2026 for Singapore, both at 19:00. Ponant’s Le Soléal leaves for Busan on March 14 and May 9, 2027. Silversea’s Silver Cloud leaves for Manila on June 9, 2027. Windstar’s Star Seeker leaves November 5, 2026 and March 11, May 10 and September 25, 2027, per Taoticket.

Kobe: Azamara Pursuit leaves for Tokyo on March 11, April 3, April 8 and May 6, 2027. Regent’s Seven Seas Navigator leaves April 29 and May 8, 2027. Ponant’s Le Jacques Cartier leaves April 6, 2027. Japan’s own lines, Mitsui Ocean and Asuka, also use Kobe.

Princess sells “cruisetours from Kobe,” but on the April 2027 one we read, Kobe is a land stay and the ship sails from Yokohama. Celebrity, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Viking called here on the listings we read; none started a cruise here. Pick the ship first, then the city.

Sources, read October 20, 2026: CruiseWeb (Seabourn, Silversea, Regent and Princess listings), Siloah Travel (Ponant), Taoticket (Osaka and Kobe departure listings; Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity Japan listings), Cruisesheet (Azamara) and the City of Kobe’s October–December 2026 arrivals list. These are mostly third-party listings; confirm your own ship and date with the line.

Where you can go

Voyages from here run three ways: west through the Inland Sea to Hiroshima, Kyushu and Busan; east along the coast to Tokyo; or south on long runs to Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore. Each ship keeps its own route, so one sailing won’t call at all of these.

Entry: US citizens need no visa for stays under 90 days, per the State Department, and Japan’s Foreign Ministry lists the US on its visa-exemption list at 90 days. Your passport must be valid for the whole stay. Everyone is fingerprinted and photographed on arrival. Flying into Kansai, you can register on Visit Japan Web before you leave and scan its QR code at the immigration kiosks, per the airport. JESTA, Japan’s planned pre-travel authorization, isn’t in force: the law passed in May 2026, its start date is set by ordinance, and it must take effect by March 31, 2029, per press reports. It will cover cruise passengers too. Check again before you fly.

Tempozan, Naka Pier and Kobe Port Terminal

Osaka: Tempozan. The City of Osaka runs Tempozan Passenger Terminal, with customs, immigration and quarantine and one passenger gangway, next to the Kaiyukan and the Ferris wheel. The city says its new terminal adds turnaround capability for large ships. Osakako Station is about five minutes’ walk.

Kobe: two terminals. Naka Pier Cruise Terminal sits at the tip of Naka Pier, on the first two floors of the Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel’s building, and takes ships up to the 77,000-ton class, per the City of Kobe. Kobe Port Terminal, on Shinko Pier No. 4, is for large ships, with a 2,500-person hall and the Port Liner’s Port Terminal Station right outside — two stops, about five minutes, from Sannomiya.

The two cities are about 14 miles (22 km) apart in a straight line. That’s a train or a taxi, not a walk, so book your hotel in the right one.

05

Parking, in short

Almost nobody drives to these ships, and we found no cruise parking published at either city. Kobe Port Terminal’s car park charges ¥160 an hour, ¥960 a day at most, per the City of Kobe, but spaces can’t be reserved, it can fill on big-ship days, and nothing we read says it takes cars for a voyage.

Fly in. If you must drive, ask your line where it wants the car before you set off.

Getting here

Fly into Kansai International (KIX). Osaka’s Itami (ITM) and Kobe Airport (UKB) are domestic-first, and we found no US nonstops to either. From Kansai, the City of Osaka puts Tempozan about 30 minutes by car or 60 by limousine bus.

The catch is the clock. KATE’s Tempozan bus runs from Terminal 1 only between 8:20 and 17:10, and Japan Airlines’ evening flight from Los Angeles lands at 18:45, per schedule data. Kobe is easier late: the Sannomiya bus runs until 23:00.
