Getting There · Broome

Nearest Airport to the Broome Cruise Port

There’s one airport, and it’s next to town. Broome International is about 1.4 km from Chinatown by our pins, and the Kimberley lines generally collect you from your hotel, so the real planning is the flight that gets you here.

The short answer

Fly into Broome International Airport (BME). There’s no nonstop from the US: fly to an Australian gateway, then connect to Broome on Qantas, Virgin Australia or Airnorth.

On the ground it’s short. Broome Transit meets arrivals, AU$15 a person to Town Beach and AU$20 to Cable Beach, and taxis run about AU$15–20 into town, per the Broome Visitor Centre.

The ride to the ship is usually your line’s. True North and Kimberley Quest collect from your accommodation from about 16:00, and both say land by noon if you fly in on the day.

Fly in the day before if

  • You’re coming from the US on an overnight long-haul
  • Your connection runs through Perth, Sydney or Melbourne
  • You want a Staircase to the Moon night or Cable Beach at sunset

Fly in on the day only if

  • You land by noon, as True North and Kimberley Quest advise
  • Your line’s documents confirm the pickup
  • You’ve already spent a night in Australia

Coral’s trip notes, as Exodus sells them, check in at the Broome Civic Centre (Jimmy Chi Hall, 27 Weld Street) at 14:00, with a free transfer to the port, boarding at 16:00 and a 17:00 departure. That’s an agency’s copy of the line’s notes; your own joining instructions rule. We found no line that publishes a luggage limit for these voyages.

The Ride

What the ride to town costs

Broome Transit is per person; the taxi row is the top of the Visitor Centre’s approximate range.

Travelers
Broome Transit to Town Beach, per person—
Broome Transit to Cable Beach, per person—
Taxi to Cable Beach, top of the about AU$28–35 range—

One way, in Australian dollars, as the Broome Visitor Centre printed them on October 20, 2026. Taxis to Town Beach run about AU$15–20, and fares vary by operator.

Chinatown Taxis and Broome Taxis work the airport rank; Broome Private Taxis takes bookings only. Some resorts run paid guest shuttles: the Cable Beach Club and Broome Time Resort both do. Ask each for the current price; the published figures disagree or may be out of date.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

Two lines publish a landing cutoff for Broome. True North and Kimberley Quest both say land by about noon on departure day, for pickups from 16:00. The second row is our advice, not a line’s rule.

  • Noon on sail dayTrue North and Kimberley Quest: land by about noon for a 16:00 pickup and a roughly 17:00 sailing.—
  • The day beforeOur advice, which both lines also give: arrive the day before, since you’re connecting from a long-haul.—

Your joining instructions set the pickup time and place. If you book your own flights, we’d land the day before.

Coming Home

The morning you’re back

Kimberley Quest disembarks its Wyndham-to-Broome voyage at about 08:00 and says book flights after 10:30. Coral’s Darwin-to-Broome sailings end in Broome too. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore.

There are no partner links in this plan. It’s built only from what the lines, the airport, the Broome Visitor Centre and each hotel publish.

ETA and Bags

The ETA, the arrival card and your bags

US citizens need an Electronic Travel Authority before they fly. The Australian Embassy in Washington says to apply in the Australian ETA app, free to download, with an AU$20 service fee and no visa charge; applying on a website, or paying more, signals a scam. The State Department says the ETA covers tourist stays under 90 days, and rates Australia Level 1. Apply as soon as your voyage is booked; we couldn’t find an official lead time.

On arrival you fill in an Incoming Passenger Card. Declare food, animal products and plant material, including wooden souvenirs, or bin them, per the Department of Agriculture. The infringement notice goes up to AU$6,260.

For the bags: the airport has lockers for up to 7 days, in the short-term car park, per the Broome Visitor Centre. None take surfboards or bikes. For the port and the lines, see our Broome cruise guide.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

A night in Broome takes the long-haul and the domestic connection off sail day. True North and Kimberley Quest both recommend it, and most lines collect you from your hotel the next afternoon.

None of our ten runs its own ride to the ship. Two resorts run airport shuttles for guests; ask each for a quote.
