The 30-second answer
Everything you need before you book, in four cards — the full detail behind each one is below.
How Viking Sky’s included-first dining model works
Viking’s defining structural difference from most of the lines we’ve scored: “specialty” describes the dining product, never the price tag.
On Viking Sky, Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Chef’s Table are both full specialty restaurants — table service, a dedicated cuisine and format, reservations recommended — and both carry no cover charge. This guide scores them under Specialty Dining, tagged Specialty — Standard and Specialty — Experience, and never also lists either one under Included Dining. Their no-cover-charge status is captured in the Value score and in each venue’s own pricing note below, not by listing the restaurant twice.
On most other lines we have scored, “specialty” dining usually means a cover-charge restaurant open to anyone who pays extra. On Viking Sky, the only venue that actually carries an additional charge is The Kitchen Table — a hands-on cooking experience with itinerary-dependent availability. Everything else described as Specialty here is included in the fare.
| Venue | Taxonomy tag | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant | Specialty — Standard | Included in the fare; no cover charge. Reservations recommended. |
| The Chef’s Table | Specialty — Experience | Included in the fare, base wine pairing included; no cover charge. Premium wine-pairing upgrade optional. |
| The Kitchen Table | Specialty — Experience | Additional charge applies; pricing and format vary by itinerary. Not guaranteed on every sailing. |

All 9 dining venues, filtered by taxonomy
Every venue this guide scores Viking Sky on, tagged by how it’s actually priced and accessed — not by what it’s called.
Filter the roster
Aquavit Terrace is not listed as its own row here — it’s the al fresco extension of World Café, not a separate dining product, and is folded into that venue’s description below.
Filter by taxonomy| Venue & taxonomy | What it means |
|---|---|
| The Restaurant Included — Full Service | The main dining room. Open seating, no assigned tables or set dinner times — walk in any evening the venue is open. |
| World Café Included — Casual | The all-day buffet, with live cooking stations and a dedicated sushi/seafood counter. Aquavit Terrace is its al fresco extension — the same venue, open-air, not a separate dining product. |
| Mamsen’s Included — Casual | A Norwegian deli and waffle window on the pool deck — snack-tier in format, tagged Casual in this guide’s taxonomy. |
| Pool Grill Included — Casual | Outdoor, poolside grill service — burgers, hot dogs, and similar fast casual fare. |
| Wintergarden — Afternoon Tea Included — Casual | A formal afternoon tea service, included in the fare, in the ship’s Wintergarden lounge. |
| 24-Hour Room Service Included — Full Service | Available to every stateroom around the clock — no grade-tiering, no stateroom category gets a richer room-service menu than another. |
| Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant Specialty — Standard | A full Italian menu with table service and its own dedicated space — and no cover charge. Reservations are recommended; higher stateroom categories get earlier booking windows, not better access (see Suite & Restricted Dining below). |
| The Chef’s Table Specialty — Experience | A multi-course tasting menu with a base wine pairing, both included in the fare at no cover charge. A roughly $25pp premium wine-pairing upgrade exists as an optional beverage add-on and is waived for guests on the Silver Spirits beverage package — the restaurant itself is never a paid venue. |
| The Kitchen Table Specialty — Experience | Viking’s one paid dining venue: a hands-on market-to-table cooking experience. Additional charge applies; pricing and format vary by itinerary, and availability is itinerary-dependent — it is not guaranteed on every sailing. |
9 venues aboard Viking Sky: 6 included, 2 no-cover specialty, 1 extra-cost
The two no-cover specialty restaurants, and the one paid experience
Viking Sky carries three Specialty-tagged venues — two of them included in the fare at no additional cost, and one genuinely paid.
Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant
Included in the fare — no cover charge
A full Italian menu with table service and its own dedicated dining room. Reservations are recommended; guests in higher stateroom categories get an earlier booking window, which is a timing benefit, not a difference in what’s on the menu or who can eventually get a table — every stateroom category can book Manfredi’s.
The Chef’s Table
Included in the fare, base wine pairing included — no cover charge
A multi-course tasting menu with a rotating theme, paired with a base wine selection — both included in the fare. A roughly $25pp premium wine-pairing upgrade exists as an optional beverage add-on, waived for guests on the Silver Spirits beverage package. The restaurant itself is never a paid venue; only the premium pairing upgrade is optional and extra.
The Kitchen Table
Additional charge applies; pricing and format vary by itinerary
A hands-on, market-to-table cooking experience — typically built around a market visit and a group cooking session. It is Viking’s one genuinely paid dining venue, and it is not guaranteed to run on every Viking Sky sailing. This guide deliberately does not publish a single fleetwide price for it, since published figures range widely by itinerary and format.
Every venue aboard Viking Sky, by occasion
Fjords and Baltic sailings, stretched by occasional long World Cruise segments
No venues in this ship’s lineup fall into that category.
Why Value scores 9.5 — the highest in this entire project
A 9.5 in Value is the highest Value score anywhere in the entire Seabound Dining Score project. Read it precisely: this reflects how comprehensive the included dining is relative to what guests would pay extra for elsewhere — not that the cruise fare itself is inexpensive. Once aboard Viking Sky, dining comes with essentially no specialty-restaurant upcharges anywhere in the fleet except the optional Kitchen Table experience. Two full specialty restaurants with table service, a dedicated cuisine, and zero cover charge is the specific, stated product fact behind the number — not a judgment on what the cruise itself costs to book.
Viking is a useful proof case for one thing we keep testing for: “I love specialty dining” and “I don’t want to pay extra for it” are two different traveler preferences, and here they can both be satisfied at once. Two full specialty restaurants ship-wide carry zero cover charge; only one hands-on paid experience exists fleet-wide.
Suite & Restricted Dining — 1.0, a genuine absence, not a poor score
Suite & Restricted Dining scores 1.0 on Viking Sky — flat, identical across all 12 Viking Ocean ships. This reflects a genuinely empty category, not a poor-execution score: no suite-exclusive restaurant, restricted dining room, or accommodation-gated venue exists anywhere in the Viking Ocean fleet. Every venue described on this page, including both no-cover specialty restaurants, is open to every stateroom category.
What higher stateroom categories actually get is an earlier reservation booking window and reservation priority for Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Chef’s Table — a timing advantage, not a separate dining product. All stateroom categories can book both restaurants; this guide never represents that booking-priority difference as a restricted venue, which is why it is not folded into this score.
Suite & Restricted Dining reads 1.0 on Viking Sky and on every other Viking Ocean ship alike. This guide states plainly that the underlying product — a suite-exclusive restaurant — simply doesn’t exist fleet-wide, rather than dressing the absence up as a shortfall in execution.
Worth knowing, and one thing worth stating plainly
Viking Sky was delivered in 2017 and sails a mix of Fjords, Baltic, and Mediterranean itineraries, with occasional long World Cruise segments worked into her schedule.
In March 2019, Viking Sky lost propulsion off Hustadvika, Norway, in heavy seas; 479 guests were airlifted by helicopter over several hours before the ship restarted her engines and reached port under her own power. It’s a real, documented event in this ship’s history and worth stating plainly — and it has no bearing on her dining venues, taxonomy, or score. This guide mentions it here, briefly, and does not tie it to any dining claim.
On the longer World Cruise segments Viking Sky occasionally runs, the same fully included six-venue lineup and two no-cover specialty restaurants are what guests are actually living on for weeks at a time — the structural reason a comprehensive included model scores as well as it does in this guide’s Value category.
Viking Sky’s Seabound Dining Score of 8.3/10 is not a ranking result — it’s a genuine, stated tie across the entire globally marketed Viking Ocean fleet: all 12 scored ships, First Generation and Second Generation alike, run the identical included-first dining model and land on the identical weighted total of 8.270. This guide does not manufacture a winner among them. The honest differentiator between Viking ships is itinerary, size, and character — not dining quality.
Quick answers
Why do Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Chef’s Table count as Specialty Dining instead of Included Dining, if neither carries a cover charge?
Because Specialty describes the dining product — format, cuisine depth, table service — never whether it carries a cover charge. Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Chef’s Table are both included in Viking Sky’s fare at no additional cost, and both are scored under Specialty Dining, tagged Specialty — Standard and Specialty — Experience respectively. This guide never also lists either one under Included Dining — each venue appears once, in its primary category, and its no-cover-charge status is captured in the Value score and in the venue’s own pricing note, not by double-listing the restaurant.
Is The Kitchen Table available on every Viking Sky sailing, and what does it cost?
Not necessarily, and this guide doesn’t publish one fleetwide price for it. The Kitchen Table is Viking’s one paid dining venue — a hands-on, market-to-table cooking experience — and its availability is itinerary-dependent, meaning it is not guaranteed on every Viking Sky sailing. Pricing and format vary by itinerary; rather than publish a single number that would be wrong on some sailings, this guide states plainly: additional charge applies, and pricing and format vary by itinerary.
Why does Suite & Restricted Dining score exactly 1.0 on Viking Sky — isn’t that a bad grade?
It reads low because the category is genuinely empty, not because Viking Sky’s dining execution is poor. No suite-exclusive restaurant, restricted dining room, or accommodation-gated venue exists anywhere in the Viking Ocean fleet; every dining venue on Viking Sky, including both no-cover specialty restaurants, is open to every stateroom category. What higher categories actually get is an earlier reservation booking window for Manfredi’s and The Chef’s Table — an access-priority timing benefit, not a separate restricted dining product — which is why this guide doesn’t fold it into the score as if it were one.
Why is Value 9.5 — the highest score in the entire Seabound Dining Score project — if Viking isn’t a budget cruise line?
Because Value here measures how comprehensive the included dining is relative to what guests would pay extra for elsewhere, not whether the cruise fare itself is inexpensive. Once aboard Viking Sky, dining comes with essentially no specialty-restaurant upcharges anywhere in the fleet except the optional Kitchen Table experience — two full specialty restaurants with table service and their own dedicated cuisine, both included at zero cover charge, is the specific product fact behind the 9.5. A high Value score is not a claim about the price of booking the cruise itself.
Why does Viking Sky score 8.3/10 in a tie with 11 other Viking Ocean ships, instead of being ranked separately?
Because it’s a genuine, stated tie, not an averaging artifact this guide is smoothing over. All 12 scored Viking Ocean ships — First Generation ships like Viking Sky and the larger Second Generation ships alike — run the identical included-first dining model: the same six included venues, the same two no-cover specialty restaurants, and the same one paid Kitchen Table experience, at the same weighted total of 8.270. No winner is manufactured among them; the honest differentiator between Viking Ocean ships is itinerary, size, and character, not dining quality.
Did the March 2019 propulsion incident off Hustadvika affect Viking Sky’s dining venues or score?
No. In March 2019, Viking Sky lost propulsion off Hustadvika, Norway, in heavy seas; 479 guests were airlifted by helicopter over several hours before the ship restarted her engines and reached port under her own power. That event is part of this ship’s documented history, but it has no connection to her dining venues, taxonomy, or Seabound Dining Score — this guide states the fact plainly and does not draw a dining conclusion from it.
Every Viking Ocean ship runs the identical scorecard
All 12 scored Viking Ocean ships — including Viking Sky — publish 8.3 / 10 on the Seabound Dining Score. This guide does not rank them against each other on dining; the honest differences between them are itinerary, size, and character.
