Hotel Continental Genova
A 44-room hotel beside Piazza Principe station with a small spa and a gym, about 300 m from Ponte dei Mille.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Genoa
Twelve hotels for a Genoa cruise, scored on what gets you to the terminal, not on reviews. Four sit by Piazza Principe, a short walk above Ponte dei Mille, but none of the twelve puts breakfast in the rate and none runs a ride to the ship.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. No hotel pays for a place here. Booking.com links earn us a commission, and they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
MSC prices its Ponte dei Mille garage by cruise length, not by the day, so the plan assumes you fly in; the table is in the parking notes below.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Hotel Continental and the Grand Hotel Savoia tie on 39, next door to each other at Piazza Principe, and the Continental takes first on distance. The Novotel is third, with a summer pool and €10 parking.
Narrow the twelve by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why twelve? We could read the facts for twelve. We left out hotels whose pages we couldn’t open.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA)Hotels.com lists no shuttle. KAYAK puts the hotel about 0.2 miles from the airport, and reviewers there call it walkable, but the hotel publishes nothing on it. To the shipNo ride to the ship is listed. Ponte dei Mille is about 6 km from our pin in a straight line; a taxi or Volabus gets you there. | |||
Every distance ends at our pin for Ponte dei Mille, and every one is a straight line, not a walking route. The port and the old town’s lanes bend every route, so even a short line can mean a taxi with bags.
Walking times assume an easy pace on streets about a third longer than the straight line. Only the four Piazza Principe hotels are a sensible walk with luggage; MSC puts the station about 500 m from the terminal.
Five things make a Genoa night before easy or hard. Here the distance and the evening do all the work. Points come from the hotel or its brand, or from the listing we name when we couldn’t read the hotel’s own site.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Booking sites don’t count, and a walking time to “the harbour” isn’t a walking time to a cruise quay.
By band, from Ponte dei Mille: Piazza Principe, within about 450 m, 30; the old town, Porto Antico and Sampierdarena, to about 1.3 km, 25; De Ferrari and Via XX Settembre 20; Carignano and the Foce 15; the airport 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Nobody in Genoa scores here; no hotel publishes a ride to the ship.
A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. Nobody scores here either; hotel parking for your stay doesn’t count, and the cruise garage is MSC’s, not a hotel’s.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Nobody scores. Every hotel that mentions breakfast sells it as an extra, from about €5 to about €31.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. Novotel’s pool opens only July 1 to August 31, per Hotels.com, and still scores. The Continental’s and Meliá’s spas cost extra, and still score.
Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to Ponte dei Mille. Hotel Continental and the Grand Hotel Savoia tie on 39; the Continental is a little nearer on our pins. Acquaverde and Agnello d’Oro tie on 33.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.
No hotel in our twelve sells parking for a cruise. MSC does, at the terminal.
At the terminal. MSC runs valet parking at the Garage Ponte dei Mille. For a car or SUV: €70 for four days, €80 for five, €90 for six, €100 for seven, €110 for eight, €120 for nine, €130 for ten, €140 for eleven, €150 for twelve, €160 for thirteen, per MSC. Book online up to 48 hours ahead; after that, book direct and show your cruise documents.
At the hotels. Rates for your stay, not for a cruise: Novotel €10 a day, Acquaverde and Bel Soggiorno €20, Palazzo Grillo €24, NH Marina, Agnello d’Oro, BW Metropoli and the Tower €25, the Continental and the Savoia €35, Meliá €36, all per listings or the hotels. Ask before you leave a car for a week.
We checked a few more hotels and couldn’t open enough of their pages to score them fairly, so they aren’t ranked.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| B&B Hotel Genova Principe | Search results gave us only listing pages we couldn’t open, not the hotel’s own site. |
Genoa’s airport is about 5 km from the terminals, per the port authority, and a taxi is a fixed €25 a car, per a 2025 report. Volabus is €10 to Piazza Principe. There’s no US nonstop, so most people connect in Europe or come down from Milan Malpensa.
Landing late? The Tower is about 0.2 miles from the airport, per KAYAK. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes, and the airport page has the fares and the landing check.

From the four Piazza Principe hotels, yes: MSC puts the station about 500 m from the terminal on foot and prints the route. From the old town or Via XX Settembre, take a taxi with bags.
