Fly into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Holland America puts it about 10 km from the cruise terminal, roughly 15 minutes by road, with a taxi around €20.
The airport’s own figure for a taxi to the centre is lower, €10 to €15, and it says luggage fees may be added. The metro costs €1.90 a ride plus €0.50 for the card, per the Metro, but it needs at least one change to reach Santa Apolónia.
With suitcases, take the taxi or a ride app — the metro, with at least one change, is for a light bag.
Take a taxi or ride app if
- You have cruise luggage
- There are two or more of you to share it
- You land on sail day
Take the metro if
- You’re travelling light
- Your hotel is in the Baixa, by Baixa-Chiado or Rossio
- You want the cheapest ride

Who starts cruises in Lisbon
What we found, read October 19, 2026. Only the first two are the lines’ own pages; check your own ship.

Norwegian, TAP and LUGGit have piloted a service at the Lisbon Cruise Terminal that collects checked bags after you leave the ship and delivers them into TAP’s check-in, per LUGGit; its page doesn’t give the year or a price, so ask your line whether it runs on your sailing. We found no cruise-line transfer prices for Lisbon.

What the ride costs
The taxi rows are per car, as Holland America and the airport print them; the metro row is per person.
| Taxi to the terminal, about €20 (Holland America) | — |
| Taxi to the centre, upper end of the airport’s €10–15 | — |
| Metro single, per person (plus €0.50 card) | — |
One way, in euros, as published on October 19, 2026. The airport says taxis may add fees for luggage or pets. The metro needs a €0.50 navegante card the first time.
Rental desks aren’t worth it for a Lisbon cruise. The terminal is a short taxi, and we found no published cruise-parking rate.
Landing on sail day? Check your timing
No line we read publishes a boarding cut-off for Lisbon, so the row below is our own margin, not a rule. Use your line’s time from your documents.
- A ride in with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 4 hours before the ship leaves.—
Flying overnight from the US, a delay or a lost bag can eat that margin fast. We’d land the day before; there’s no luggage storage at the pier.
Land a day early. Sleep by the river.
We ranked ten hotels for a Lisbon cruise, four of them within about 700 m of the terminal. Tell us the flight and the ship, and we’ll pick the night that fits.
The morning you’re back
No line we read publishes a Lisbon disembarkation time. Holland America puts the airport about 15 minutes away, roughly €20 by taxi. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore; the planner sets out the ride and the wait.
Partner links may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Entry rules, bags and the trains
Entry. The US State Department wants your passport valid for three months beyond your departure date. The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully running since April 10, 2026. It replaces passport stamps for non-EU visitors with a photo and fingerprints at the first Schengen border. ETIAS hasn’t launched and isn’t needed yet. The EU has promised at least six months’ notice, and no start date had been announced when we checked on October 19, 2026. How EES applies at the ship is up to the border police and your line; our Lisbon port-day guide has the detail.
Bags. There’s no luggage storage at the pier, per Holland America. LUGGit, a private company, delivers bags from the airport to your hotel from €2 a bag, per its blog. Carris buses only take bags up to 50 × 40 × 20 cm, per the airport.
Trains. Santa Apolónia station sits beside the terminal, per Holland America, so you can arrive from the north by train. For the terminals and the lines, see our Lisbon cruise guide.

None runs a shuttle to the ship. The two airport hotels run free airport shuttles, per Hotels.com, and suit the night after more than the night before.
