Hotel Tahiti Nui
The full-service downtown hotel: a pool, a spa, a gym and a restaurant, about 300 m from Te Anuanua.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Papeete
Ten places to stay before a Papeete cruise, scored on what gets you to Te Anuanua, not on reviews. Four sit within about 400 m of the terminal — but none of the ten publishes breakfast in every rate, and we couldn’t find a published day-use rate for the 04:10 arrivals.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. No hotel pays for a place here. Booking.com links earn us a commission, and they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one a brand site, Tahiti Tourisme’s directory, a booking platform (marked to confirm), the DTT or the line publishes, or a straight-line distance between our own map pins. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
There’s no cruise parking to price here, so the plan assumes you fly in.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Hotel Tahiti Nui wins on a pool, a spa, a gym and a restaurant, about 300 m from Te Anuanua. Sarah Nui is second, with a kitchenette in every room. Kon Tiki is third, the closest bed to the ship. Fare Suisse, first until October 20, 2026, drops to sixth: its own page prices breakfast at XPF 1,500, and its free shuttle runs to the airport and ferry dock, not the ship.
Narrow the ten by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why ten? These are the places with enough published to score. Scores rest on the hotels’ own and brand sites (Hilton, IHG and the operators we could check) and Tahiti Tourisme’s directory, a tourism board. Hotels.com and Travelocity details are printed as “confirm with the hotel” and never score.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change our rankings, which come only from what each hotel publishes. Affiliate disclosure.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the cards below are the rides from the airport.
Hilton and IHG say their hotels have no airport shuttle. Tahiti Tourisme’s entry describes a free one at Fare Suisse, by arrangement; the Royal Tahitien arranges paid transfers; Hotels.com lists a paid one at Hotel Tahiti Nui — confirm with the hotel. Everyone else, take a taxi.

| Hotel | To the ship | While you sail | From PPT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Shuttle on Hotels.com, confirm | |
Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT)Hotels.com lists an airport shuttle at XPF 1,700 a person one way, booked 72 hours ahead; confirm with the hotel. For two that would be XPF 3,400, more than our roughly 2,300 XPF estimate for a night taxi. To the shipNo ride to the ship is listed, and you won’t need one. Te Anuanua is about 300 m from our pin; Hotels.com puts the ferry terminal an 8-minute walk away. | |||

To the shipYou won’t need a ride. Te Anuanua is about 100 m from our pin, the closest of our ten, and Tahiti Tourisme puts the hotel in front of the ferry quay. | |||

To the shipNo ride from the hotel itself, and Hotels.com puts the port a 2-minute walk away. Te Anuanua is about 200 m from our pin. | |||
| Airport/ferry shuttle, not the ship | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Free shuttle, by arrangement | |
Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT)Tahiti Tourisme’s entry describes a free shared shuttle from the airport, arranged by email — a tourism-board line, not the guesthouse’s terms for your booking. Confirm it, and ask whether it meets the 04:10 flight; neither entry says. To the shipTahiti Tourisme’s entry describes a free shared shuttle “between the airport and the ferry dock,” subject to arrangements. That’s the Moorea ferry, not your ship. Neither entry names Te Anuanua, so ask by email whether they’ll drop you there — and budget a cab if not. | |||
| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Paid transfer, arrange ahead | |
Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT)The hotel arranges paid airport transfers, per its own site. Hotels.com prices them at XPF 2,100 a person one way, on 48 hours’ notice — confirm the price when you book. To the shipHotels.com lists a paid shuttle to the ferry terminal on 48 hours’ notice. The ferry terminal isn’t the cruise berth, and the hotel hasn’t confirmed the service to us, so it doesn’t score. Ask about a Te Anuanua drop, or book a taxi. | |||
| Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Not stated | |
Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT)No hotel shuttle is listed; Hotels.com puts the airport a 25-minute drive away. After the cruise, Oceania’s package here covers the ride, per Oceania. | Shuttle not stated | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Across from the airport | |
Tahiti Faa’a International Airport (PPT)Across from the airport, per Tahiti Tourisme, about 600 m between our pins. Hotels.com reviewers call the walk uphill. To the shipNo ride to the ship is listed. Te Anuanua is about 5.2 km from our pin, so a taxi into town. | |||
Every distance ends at our pin for Te Anuanua on the Front de mer, and every one is a straight line, not a walking route. The terminal pin is our estimate; the hotel pins are Tahiti Tourisme’s.
Walking times assume an easy pace on streets about a third longer than the straight line. The four waterfront hotels are a sensible walk with bags; from Paofai on, take a taxi.
Five things make a Papeete night before easy or hard. Here distance does most of the work. Points come only from a hotel’s or brand’s own site or Tahiti Tourisme’s directory; booking platforms don’t score.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Points come only from a hotel’s or brand’s own site or Tahiti Tourisme’s directory, and only for what it states outright. Booking-platform listings and reviews never score.
By band, from Te Anuanua: the waterfront, within about 450 m, 30; Paofai, to 1.6 km, 25; Pirae and the Faa’a edge, to 3 km, 20; out of town 15; by the airport 10. The InterContinental and the Airport Motel are scored as airport hotels.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Nobody scores. An airport or ferry-dock service isn’t a ride to the cruise berth: Fare Suisse’s free shuttle runs between the airport and the ferry dock, per Tahiti Tourisme, and the Royal Tahitien’s paid ferry-terminal shuttle is on Hotels.com. Line packages belong to the line, not the hotel.
A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. Nobody scores. There’s no cruise parking in Papeete, and free parking for your stay doesn’t count.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Nobody scores. Fare Suisse’s own page prices breakfast at XPF 1,500, the Airport Motel says it isn’t in the room rate, and Tahiti Tourisme prices it at Hotel Tahiti Nui and calls it extra at Sarah Nui. The InterContinental’s Dinner, Bed & Breakfast offer is one qualifying rate, not every rate, and the Hilton’s depends on your rate.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. Hotel Tahiti Nui, the Hilton and the InterContinental score 12 of 15. Sarah Nui scores for its cafeteria and the kitchenette in every room.
Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to Te Anuanua. No two hotels tie.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.
No hotel in our ten sells parking for a cruise, and there’s no cruise parking in Papeete.
At the terminal. Te Anuanua has 205 basement spaces, per Tahiti Tourisme, but the car park closes every night, per our parking page, so a car can’t stay for a voyage.
At the hotels. For your stay only. Tahiti Tourisme’s entries list free parking at Hotel Tahiti Nui and the Airport Motel, IHG at the InterContinental, and Hilton folds it into a resort fee. Hotels.com and Travelocity list parking at five more, from free to XPF 3,500 a day; confirm with the hotel. Almost everyone flies in.
We checked a few more and left them out:
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| Te Moana Tahiti Resort (Punaauia) | Tahiti Tourisme lists it as temporarily closed, updated June 1, 2026. Oceania still names it, so check before you book. |
| Le Tahiti Ia Ora Beach Resort by Sofitel (Punaauia) | Oceania still lists it, but the resort closed in 2020 and is being relaunched as the Tahiti Lagoon Resort, a 3-star, with a 2026 reopening, per eGlobal Travel Media and Air Tahiti Nui. Check it’s taking guests before you book. |
Faa’a is about 5 km from Te Anuanua, per our guide. The taxi runs at government maximums, with a night rate from 20:00 to 06:00 that every 04:10 arrival pays. Tahiti Tourisme’s entry describes a free Fare Suisse shuttle, by arrangement; the Royal Tahitien arranges paid transfers, and Hotels.com lists a paid one at Hotel Tahiti Nui. Confirm any of them with the hotel.
Landing at 04:10? Book the night before so the room is yours on arrival. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes, and the airport page has the fares and the landing check.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.

On our scoring, Hotel Tahiti Nui: a pool, a spa, a gym and a restaurant, about 300 m from Te Anuanua. Sarah Nui is second and Kon Tiki third.
From Kon Tiki, Maitai Express, Hotel Tahiti Nui and Sarah Nui, yes: all are within about 400 m of our Te Anuanua pin. From Paofai, Pirae, Faa’a or Arue, take a taxi.
We couldn’t find a published day-use rate at any of our ten. Oceania lists day rooms in its post-cruise programme; Hotels.com lists paid early check-in at Kon Tiki, to confirm with the hotel. Book the night before if you land at 04:10.
Not in every rate at any of our ten. Fare Suisse charges XPF 1,500, the Airport Motel says it isn’t in the room rate, and the InterContinental includes it only on its Dinner, Bed & Breakfast offer. Check what your rate includes.
Yes, likely on your hotel bill. French Polynesia already has a lodging tax, set commune by commune, and a reform replaces it from 1 January 2027, per the tax authority (DICP). Hotels.com listed about XPF 150 a person a night at several Papeete hotels in October 2026. Those are 2026 figures: communes set the 2027 rates, and we don’t have any hotel’s 2027 amount or exemptions, so confirm with your hotel. It isn’t charged on the ship.
Tahiti Airport Motel, across the road from arrivals, and the InterContinental, about 2 km away, per Tahiti Tourisme.
No. There’s no cruise parking, and the terminal car park closes every night, per our parking page.
