Hotel Finis Terrae

Sold as a Best Western until recently; Expedia now lists it as plain Hotel Finis Terrae on Av. Colón, with free breakfast, covered parking and a restobar, so only distance scores.

Night-Before Score
The verdict

Finis Terrae dropped down our list because its source did. The Best Western page we first read now serves a generic search page, and Expedia sells it as plain Hotel Finis Terrae.

Expedia still describes a free buffet breakfast, Restobar Novaterrae, free covered parking and 64 rooms. Listings don’t earn points, though, so it scores 30 on distance alone.

Ask the hotel to confirm the breakfast and the brand when you book — both could move it back up.

Book it if

  • You want covered parking for the night
  • You like a noon check-out before a 13:00 Australis check-in

Look elsewhere if

  • You want facts from the hotel itself
  • You’re traveling with a pet or a service animal

To the Ship

Getting here, and on to the ship

By our map estimate Finis Terrae is about 18.1 km from Punta Arenas Airport in a straight line, and about 750 m from Muelle Prat. Every question mark below is a ride you book yourself.

Expedia lists no airport shuttle. Take a minibus or a taxi, or your line’s transfer.

From PUQ without a hotel shuttle

No fare is published by the airport or an operator that we could find. Three unofficial guides put a shared van at about CLP 5,000 to 6,000 a head and a taxi at about CLP 10,000 to 13,000. There’s no direct city bus, though Bus-Sur’s Natales buses stop at the airport if you ask when you buy the ticket, per one of those guides. Antarctica21 and Quark include the group transfer from the airport on Day 1, so check your documents first. The airport page has what is and isn’t published.

Flying in the morning you sail? Australis checks in from 13:00 to 17:00, and both air-cruise lines want you in town by early afternoon; the airport page has the landing check.

Which quay

Muelle Prat

Measured to Muelle Prat, where Australis checks you in from 13:00 to 17:00 and boards at 18:00, Finis Terrae is about 750 m away in a straight line. Flying the Drake with Antarctica21 or Quark instead? Then the pier doesn’t matter — your day starts at the operator’s briefing in town and ends at the airport. The Punta Arenas cruise guide keeps the two apart.
