Hotel Dreams del Estrecho
The casino hotel on the Strait: two pools, a spa and two restaurants, and a 5-minute walk to the port by its own count.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Punta Arenas
Eleven hotels for the night before, scored on what they publish, not on reviews. Downtown is compact — ten of the eleven sit within about 800 m of Muelle Prat by our pins. Three hotel or brand sites say breakfast is in the rate.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. No hotel pays for a place here. Booking.com links earn us a commission, and they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the line or a named guide publishes, or a straight-line distance between our own map pins. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
There’s no cruise parking to price here, so the plan assumes you fly in.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
There are no partner links inside this planner. It’s built only from what the lines, the port’s owner, each hotel or its named listing, and the three airport guides we name publish. The airport fares are unofficial.
Dreams wins on its own word: two pools, saunas, a gym and two restaurants, and a 5-minute walk to the port printed on its own page. Cabo de Hornos comes second with breakfast in every stay. Los Navegantes and José Nogueira tie on 43, both with breakfast and a restaurant, and Los Navegantes takes third on distance.
Narrow the eleven by what your night needs. Save the ones you like. Tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why eleven? We checked twelve and left one out — it’s at the bottom of the page.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the cards below are the rides from the airport.
No airport or operator fare is published that we could find. Unofficial guides put a shared van at about CLP 5,000 to 6,000 per person and a taxi at about CLP 10,000 to 13,000. Per their listings Isla Rey Jorge runs a paid shuttle and Chalet Chapital arranges transfers for a fee.
Punta Arenas Airport · about 20 km from town; no direct city bus, per an unofficial guide
Per Sleeping in Airports and Dicas Chile, both unofficial. They wait in the ground transportation area, per Sleeping in Airports.
The range across three unofficial guides; Visitando Punta Arenas gives CLP 13,000 for the official taxi.
Antarctica21 and Quark include the group transfer from the airport on Day 1. Australis lists none.
Driving? No cruise parking is published, though several hotels list parking for your stay, so see the parking note below.
| Hotel | To the ship | While you sail | From PUQ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5-min walk, per the hotel | Cruise parking unconfirmed | Not stated | |
Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo International Airport (PUQ)No airport transfer is mentioned. The hotel says the airport is 6 km away, which doesn’t match our pins (about 18 km in a straight line) — budget for the longer ride. To the shipNo shuttle to the pier is listed, but the hotel itself prints “Puerto de Punta Arenas: 5 minutos a pie.” With bags, a taxi from the door is easier, and air-cruise guests don’t need the pier at all. | |||

Every distance ends at Muelle Prat, measured from the pier location the port captaincy prints, and every one is a straight line between our own map pins. The hotel pins are our estimates from street addresses, so treat the order inside a few hundred meters as rough.
Walking times assume an easy pace on streets about a third longer than the straight line. With expedition bags, take a taxi — and if you’re flying the Drake, your line drives you to the airport, not the pier.
Five things make a night before easy or hard. In Punta Arenas distance does less than usual, because downtown is compact and the air-cruise guests don’t use the pier. Points come only from the hotel’s own site or its brand’s. Where we couldn’t read the hotel’s own site, we show what Hotels.com, Expedia, InterPatagonia, Worldly Adventurer, torresdelpaine.com or a Booking.com partner listing says, attributed, and it scores zero.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Booking sites and other listings don’t count toward the score, even where we show what they say — and a walking time to “the port” counts only when the hotel itself prints it.
By band, from Muelle Prat: downtown near the pier, to about 800 m in a straight line, 30; up the hill, to about 1.5 km, 24; the edge of town 12; by the airport 6.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel itself prints at half a mile or less 15. Dreams scores 15 here, for the 5-minute walk to the port its own page prints. No other hotel whose site we read publishes a ride or a walk, and the air-cruise lines’ transfers are the line’s, not the hotel’s, so they don’t score.
A published rate to leave the car at the hotel while you cruise 20; offered, but unpriced or not guaranteed, 14. Day rates in a public garage don’t count. No hotel scores here — several list parking for the stay, but none of the ones we checked says it covers the voyage.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Cabo de Hornos says every room includes breakfast, Los Navegantes’s rates page says every rate does, and José Nogueira lists it as included. Isla Rey Jorge, Hotel Plaza, Chalet Chapital and Finis Terrae list free breakfast on booking sites, which don’t score.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3, a sauna or spa 3, a gym 3. Dreams takes 12 of the 15 from its own pages: pools, saunas, a gym and two restaurants. The pool and spa at Diego de Almagro come from a listing, so they don’t count.
Ties are broken in order: any published parking for your cruise, any stated ride to the ship, free breakfast, then the shorter straight-line distance to Muelle Prat. Los Navegantes and José Nogueira both score 43; Los Navegantes ranks higher on distance, about 600 m from Muelle Prat against 650 m. The six listing-only hotels on 30 fall in order of distance, from Isla Rey Jorge at about 400 m to Finis Terrae at about 750 m.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates move by the day, so they aren’t scored, and review scores neither. Distances are straight lines between our own map pins, not routed walks or drives, and we say so wherever they appear.
No hotel we checked publishes parking for the voyage — if you’re driving anyway, ask the hotel and your line before you plan on it.
Why there’s no calculator. No cruise parking is published for Muelle Prat, so there’s no rate to feed one.
What to plan instead. The bags. The Antarctic charters cap you at 25 kg with Antarctica21 or 15 kg plus 5 kg with Quark, so sort out what stays behind before the night before. Cabo de Hornos lists luggage storage, and Quark includes bag storage with its post-voyage night.
We checked twelve and ranked eleven. The one we left out:
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| Hotel Estación Náutica - Aeropuerto | The first hotel, rather than cabins or apartments, on Booking.com’s PUQ airport page, about 6.9 km out. We couldn’t find its own site or any facts beyond the distance, so we left it out rather than score it on guesswork. |
PUQ is about 20 km north of town. There’s no direct city bus, per an unofficial guide, so take a shared minibus or a taxi — or your line’s transfer.
On an air-cruise? Check whether the hotel nights are already in your package: Antarctica21 includes two, Quark one before and one after. The Getting There table shows what each hotel publishes, and the airport page has the landing check.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.

On our scoring, Hotel Dreams del Estrecho: two pools, saunas, a gym and two restaurants, and a 5-minute walk to the port, all per the hotel. Breakfast isn’t mentioned.
On our pins, Hotel Isla Rey Jorge, about 400 m in a straight line, and Hotels.com puts the port about 0.4 km away. Our hotel pins are estimates from street addresses, so treat that as rough.
Antarctica21 lists the Cabo de Hornos Hotel or similar for its two included nights. It isn’t guaranteed.
Of the hotel and brand sites we read, Cabo de Hornos, Los Navegantes and José Nogueira say so. Several others list it on booking sites, unconfirmed by the hotel.
No. Air-cruise guests fly from the airport, and Antarctica21 and Quark include hotel nights and transfers. The pier matters for Australis.
Hotel Plaza, per Hotels.com: dogs up to 22 lb stay free. Confirm with the hotel.
