Queen Mary 2 Dining, Decoded

Queen Mary 2 publishes 8.2 / 10 on the Seabound Dining Score — second in the four-ship Cunard fleet. Her real, confirmed edge over her sisters isn’t a deeper version of the fleet-wide themed-dining program; it’s three casual venues currently exclusive to this ship — Carinthia Lounge, Boardwalk Café, and Chart Room.

How the Grills system works

Cunard’s defining structural difference from every other line on Seabound: which restaurant you can walk into is decided by your stateroom, not your wallet at the door.

Access to Britannia Club Restaurant, Princess Grill Restaurant, and Queens Grill Restaurant on Queen Mary 2 is decided by stateroom category — not loyalty tier, and not a paid add-on package. Each one is included in the fare for guests booked into the qualifying accommodation grade, and none of the three carries a cover charge. None should be read as a specialty restaurant, and this guide never lists any of them under both Included and Suite & Restricted Dining.

Elsewhere on Seabound, “included” dining usually means one restaurant open to everyone, and paid dining means a cover-charge specialty book open to anyone who pays. On Queen Mary 2, three of the four full-service restaurants are included in the fare — which one you can walk into is simply set by your cabin.

A note on the Golden Lion

The Golden Lion pub is included in the cruise fare on every Cunard ship, but not every item on its menu is: a passenger-confirmed account — not just the official listing, which describes it simply as “Included” — establishes that select menu items carry an additional charge. This guide never describes the entire Golden Lion menu as complimentary, and never splits it into two separate venues; it’s one pub, with mixed pricing, the same way on all four Queens.

The Verandah

Queen Mary 2 carries one permanent specialty restaurant beyond the Grills tier: The Verandah, Cunard’s steakhouse, also found aboard Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth — the same standing-restaurant format on all three ships.

No current reliable 2026 numeric cover charge is published for The Verandah — this guide uses “additional cover charge applies” rather than an outdated figure. Pre-booking through My Cunard saves roughly 10% versus paying onboard. It is a real, additional-cost restaurant — unlike the three Grill restaurants, which are included for their qualifying accommodation grade.

Dinner at Kings Court — one shared Cunard program, not a Queen Mary 2 exclusive

Dinner at Kings Court is not a Queen Mary 2-only product. It’s the same Cunard-wide rotating themed-dining program that also runs as Dinner at the Lido aboard Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth — hosted in a differently named buffet space on each ship, but built from one shared roster.

Core rotating concepts — Bamboo, Coriander, La Piazza — appear everywhere the program runs. Itinerary-specific concepts such as Nordlys, Riviera, Karibe, and Frontier come and go with where a ship is sailing, not with which ship she is. It carries an additional charge, discounted roughly 10% when pre-booked online through My Cunard.

A wider list of theme names surfacing in research for Queen Mary 2 doesn’t mean she runs a deeper or more extensive version of this program — that reflects research completeness, not a confirmed product difference. This guide scores it as one program, with one shared roster, at an identical extra cost, on every ship that runs it.

07

Suite & Restricted Dining — 9.1, flat across the fleet

Suite & Restricted Dining scores 9.1 on Queen Mary 2 — identical across all four Queens, not an average that happens to land the same. Access to Britannia Club Restaurant, Princess Grill Restaurant, and Queens Grill Restaurant is tied to accommodation grade, each comes with dedicated tables and its own service style, and in-suite dining privileges strengthen at each grade above standard Britannia.

Room service on Queen Mary 2 also scales with accommodation grade: Britannia-grade cabins get complimentary breakfast-in-bed selections, with other room-service items potentially carrying a charge depending on what’s ordered. Britannia Club adds stronger included in-room benefits. Princess Grill and Queens Grill guests get materially stronger in-suite dining privileges, and Queens Grill guests specifically can order in-suite from the Queens Grill restaurant’s own menu. This is folded into the 9.1 above, not scored as a separate venue.

The Seabound rule
A flat figure — because the product is flat, not because the math was smoothed over.

Suite & Restricted Dining reads 9.1 on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Anne alike. No page in this guide implies Queen Mary 2 runs a stronger or weaker restricted-dining system than her sisters — the confirmed architecture behind the number is identical, fleet-wide.

08

Queen Mary 2’s real edge: casual-venue breadth

Queen Mary 2’s confirmed advantage over Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth isn’t a richer specialty bench or a bigger Dinner at Kings Court program — it’s three casual venues currently exclusive to this ship: Carinthia Lounge (light breakfast, Viennese pastries, afternoon wine and small plates), Boardwalk Café (fast-food/pool grill, mostly included with some paid items), and Chart Room (coffee and light-fare lounge, included coffee with some paid items). These three are the actual basis for her Casual & Quick Dining score of 8.0, the fleet’s second-highest.

Don’t confuse Carinthia Lounge with Queen Elizabeth’s separately named Café Carinthia — related names, but not confirmed to be the same product, and treated here as two distinct venues on two distinct ships.

One note on what’s not aboard: Illuminations, Queen Mary 2’s planetarium/cinema/lecture space, is confirmed to serve no food and is not counted as a dining venue anywhere in this guide.

Quick answers

Why aren’t Britannia Club, Princess Grill, and Queens Grill counted as specialty restaurants on Queen Mary 2?

Because access is decided by stateroom category, not by a cover charge. Britannia Club Restaurant, Princess Grill Restaurant, and Queens Grill Restaurant are each included in the fare for guests booked into the qualifying accommodation grade — not add-on packages, and not tied to loyalty tier. That’s Cunard’s defining structural difference from every other line we've scored: elsewhere, paid dining means a cover-charge specialty book open to everyone who pays; on Queen Mary 2, three of the four full-service restaurants are included, and which one you can walk into is set by your cabin. This guide never lists any of the three under both Included and Suite & Restricted Dining — each gets one tag, Suite-Access Restricted, and nothing is double-counted.

Is Dinner at Kings Court a Queen Mary 2 exclusive, and does she run a deeper version of it than Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth?

No to both. Dinner at Kings Court is the same Cunard-wide rotating themed-dining program that also runs as Dinner at the Lido aboard Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth — hosted in a differently named buffet space on each ship, with an identical core theme roster (Bamboo, Coriander, La Piazza) plus itinerary-specific concepts (Nordlys, Riviera, Karibe, Frontier) that come and go with where a ship is sailing, not with which ship she is. A wider list of theme names turning up in research for Queen Mary 2 reflects research completeness, not a deeper or more extensive program — this guide treats it as one shared program, at the same extra cost, with the same roughly 10% discount for pre-booking through My Cunard, on all three ships that run it.

Is everything at the Golden Lion pub really included in the fare?

Most of it, but not all of it. Core pub fare at the Golden Lion is included in the cruise fare on all four Queens, and that’s confirmed by more than Cunard’s own official page — a passenger account independently confirms that select menu items carry an additional charge. This guide never describes the entire Golden Lion menu as complimentary, and never splits the pub into two separate venues over it — it’s one pub, with mixed pricing, the same way on every ship in the fleet.

Why does Suite & Restricted Dining score exactly 9.1 on Queen Mary 2, same as the other three Queens?

Because the underlying system is confirmed identical fleet-wide, and this guide treats that as one flat figure rather than an average that happens to land the same. Access to Britannia Club Restaurant, Princess Grill Restaurant, and Queens Grill Restaurant is tied to accommodation grade on every Cunard ship, each comes with dedicated tables of its own, and in-suite dining privileges strengthen at each grade — Britannia Club above standard Britannia, and Princess Grill/Queens Grill materially above that, with Queens Grill guests able to order in-suite from the Grill restaurant’s own menu. No page in this guide implies Queen Mary 2 has a stronger or weaker restricted-dining system than her sisters; the score doesn’t either.

What’s the difference between Queen Mary 2’s Carinthia Lounge and Queen Elizabeth’s Café Carinthia?

They’re related in name only, and this guide treats them as two distinct venues on two distinct ships. Queen Mary 2’s Carinthia Lounge serves a light breakfast, Viennese pastries, and afternoon wine and small plates. Queen Elizabeth’s Café Carinthia is a separate, mixed-pricing casual venue. No current source confirms they’re the same product, so neither ship’s guide describes one as a version of the other.

Why does Queen Mary 2 score 8.2 on the Seabound Dining Score, and where does she rank in the fleet?

Queen Mary 2’s weighted total comes to 8.200, published as 8.2/10 — second in the Cunard fleet behind Queen Anne (8.6), ahead of Queen Elizabeth (8.1) and pre-refit Queen Victoria (8.0). Her real, confirmed edge over Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria is casual-venue breadth: Carinthia Lounge, Boardwalk Café, and Chart Room are all currently exclusive to Queen Mary 2, and they’re the basis for her Casual & Quick Dining score (8.0, the fleet’s second-highest) — not a deeper Dinner at Kings Court program, which this guide treats as identical across every ship that runs it.
