Basecamp is the small one with character. Breakfast is in the rate, per Visit Svalbard, all sixteen rooms have their own bathroom, and there’s a loft upstairs for the midnight sun.
It ranks third because there’s no restaurant or sauna to score on the evening. The centre is right outside, though, so dinner is a short walk.
One 2026 catch: its Flybuss stop is shut for roadworks until 31 October. Use the Polfareren stop instead.
Book it if
- You want a small, characterful room in the centre
- Breakfast in the rate matters
- You’d rather eat out in town anyway
Look elsewhere if
- You want a restaurant or sauna in the building
- You land between 9 August and 31 October and don’t want the walk from the Polfareren stop

Which quay
BykaiaMeasured to Bykaia, Port Longyear’s main quay, Basecamp is about 1.5 km in a straight line, and about 100 m from the town centre. No turnaround quay is published: smaller ships use other piers or anchor and tender, and Quark warns you may board by Zodiac. Your line’s documents name the place; the Longyearbyen cruise guide has the rest.
