Cruises From Tromsø

Tromsø is a young turnaround port, and growing. Most voyages that start here board at Prostneset, in the city centre; ships over 230 m are sent to Breivika, about 4 km north, per Seatrade.

Five ways into this guide

Go straight to the question you came with. Each card jumps to its answer.

01

In brief

Tromsø has been a port of call for a long time. As a place to start a cruise it’s new. Seatrade reported 7 turnarounds among 104 calls in 2025, and 47 among the 204 calls booked for 2026 as of March 2025, and the port expects about one call in five to be a turnaround through 2030.

This page is for starting or ending a cruise here. If your ship is only calling for the day, our Tromsø port-day guide covers the two berths and the walk into town, and our shore excursion picks cover the tours.

Many of the voyages that start here are winter trips built around the northern lights, which Visit Tromsø puts from late August to early April. The midnight sun runs roughly May 20 to July 22. Those dates come from our port-day page, checked in September.

Cruise lines sailing from here

Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced, and it lives only here.

Current as of October 12, 2026

Checked against the lines’ pages, Tromsø Havn’s schedule, trade press and sale listings on October 12, 2026. HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) launched seven-night winter round trips from Tromsø on MS Spitsbergen in January 2026, to Lyngen, Senja, Lofoten and Vesterålen, per Seatrade; a sale listing shows a December 26, 2026 departure. Hurtigruten’s North Cape Line boards MS Trollfjord at Prostneset Kai 8 from 11:00 to 17:00 for an 18:00 departure, and its voyages end here at 10:00. A third-party listing shows a Tromsø to Oslo sailing on March 18, 2027. Havila sells a four-day Round Voyage Tromsø, to Kirkenes and back, and both Havila’s and Hurtigruten’s coastal ships call twice a day, northbound and southbound, with port-to-port tickets. Ponant’s Le Champlain leaves for Glasgow on April 3, 2027, and Tauck sails the same ship on 11-night round trips from March 3, 13 and 23, 2027; both are on third-party listings. Viking: a sale site lists Viking Vela from Tromsø to London in February and March 2027, which we couldn’t see on Viking’s own site. Viking.com shows a new 2028 London-to-Tromsø voyage, ending here.

Where you can go

From Tromsø the coastal ships run north toward the North Cape and Kirkenes and south toward Bergen; HX’s winter round trips work the islands and fjords nearby; and some expedition ships carry on to Svalbard. The stops below are ones on those routes. One voyage won’t call at all of them.

Prostneset, Breivika and the quay we can’t place

Tromsø Havn lists two quays at Prostneset, in the city centre. Quay 7, 190 m long, is the coastal-voyage berth; Quay 8, 300 m, is the only quay the port labels mainly for cruise ships. Hurtigruten gives the terminal as Samuel Arnesens gate 5 and boards its North Cape Line at Kai 8. The terminal stores luggage on its first floor, near the exit to the bus terminal, and is open 06:30 to 01:30, per Visit Tromsø.

Breivika is about 4 km north of the centre. The port lists Quay 24, given as 20 to 24 and 410 m long, and Quay 25, 150 m. Ships over 230 m call there, per Seatrade. It’s a secure area with access control. To reach the centre, take the underpass to the stop across Stakkevollvegen and catch bus 42 towards Eidkjosen, per Visit Tromsø; some lines run their own shuttles.

One loose end. The port’s cruise schedule puts big ships, among them Majestic Princess, Queen Anne, AIDAluna, Mein Schiff 3 and Ambience, at “Kai 21”, which isn’t on its quay list. It may be part of the Breivika stretch listed as 20 to 24; we couldn’t confirm that. If your documents say Kai 21, ask your line.

Confirm with your line — the quay can change with the ship.

Parking, in short

There’s no cruise car park at Prostneset or Breivika that we could find. In the centre, Fjellet, the underground garage run by Tromsø Parkering, has about 900 spaces and a 2.20 m height limit, and stays over 14 days have to be arranged in advance, per Visit Tromsø. Scandic quotes it at NOK 45 an hour on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00, NOK 225 overnight and NOK 450 per 24 hours, not bookable. Comfort Hotel Xpress quotes NOK 42 an hour or NOK 420 a night. The Seminaret garage near Tromsø Bridge has a 2 m limit and no published prices.

Avinor’s airport car parks cap a week (eight days) at NOK 949 in P7 and P11. With the airport express to Prostneset, that may cost less than a week at Fjellet. Note that the Tromsø Bridge is closed to cars until November 1, 2026.

Getting here

Tromsø Airport, Langnes, is about 5 km from the city centre, per Visit Tromsø, about 10 minutes by car. The red airport express bus leaves from in front of the arrivals hall, and the taxi rank is to the left outside arrivals.

Until November 1, 2026 the Tromsø Bridge is closed to cars; buses still cross 07:00 to 17:00 and use the Tromsøysund Tunnel overnight. Tromsø Airport to the ship has the rest.

The night before, ranked: we’ve scored thirteen hotels for the night before a Tromsø cruise, twelve of them within about 500 m of Prostneset in a straight line and one by the airport, on what each one publishes. None runs a ride to the ship. Five worth knowing:
