Where to cruise inFebruary

February closes two windows at once. Antarctica and the Nile are in their final peak month, Bermuda is the one region that drops off the atlas this month, and six ocean regions are still at their best.

In short

Where can I cruise in February?

In February the peak regions are the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, Asia, Australia & New Zealand and South America & Antarctica. Open below peak: the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Hawaii & South Pacific, the Arctic & Norwegian Fjords, the Galápagos and transatlantic crossings.

What changed since January is small. It still matters. The Galápagos has left its mid-December-to-mid-January rush, and Bermuda is gone — we couldn't confirm a February 2027 call, so the atlas leaves the month out.

Three ocean regions are closed: Bermuda, Alaska and Canada & New England. Every European river and the Columbia & Snake stay dark on our atlas until March, and the Nile and Mekong carry the river side alone.

How to choose

How to pick a February cruise

Your first cruise in February belongs in the Caribbean or on the Mexican Riviera — the Caribbean for sheer choice, 13 departure ports against three, the Mexican Riviera if you're on the West Coast and want Cabo, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta in a week. Both are in their driest stretch.

Crowd-avoiders have six open-not-peak regions, and the Galápagos is the interesting one this month: still in the warm season with calmer seas, but past the busiest stretch. The Western Mediterranean and Norway's coastal voyages are the two others we'd shortlist.

For expedition, February is decision time. Not next month. Antarctica & Cape Horn and the South America coast are in their last peak month, with 16 expedition stops on our map and departures continuing into March. Pick on dates, not on the hope that March is calmer — landings are conditional on weather, ice and permits in every month.

Nile or Mekong — that's the February river choice on our atlas, and it's the Nile's last month at peak. AmaWaterways lists a few Romantic Danube dates in February, which is worth asking about, but Europe's rivers don't come back in force until March.

March reopens Europe's rivers

The biggest reopening of the year comes in March. The Danube, Rhine, Seine, Rhône, Douro and Columbia & Snake all return to the atlas, Bermuda comes back after its February gap, and transatlantic crossings start their March–May peak.

Two peaks end: South America & Antarctica and the Nile both step down to open. Neither closes — Antarctic ships depart into March and the Nile sails all year — but February is the last month the atlas calls them peak.

Quick answers

Cruising in February: questions

Where can I cruise in February?

February's peak regions are the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Asia, Australia & New Zealand and South America & Antarctica. Six more are open — the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Hawaii & South Pacific, the Arctic & Norwegian Fjords, the Galápagos and transatlantic crossings — and the Nile and Mekong are the rivers at peak.

Why isn't Bermuda on the February map?

Because we couldn't confirm a February 2027 call. Winter brings Bermuda only a handful of holiday sailings and transatlantic calls, and the weekly Northeast round trips run roughly April to November. It returns to the atlas in March.

Are any European rivers sailing in February?

Not on our atlas. AmaWaterways lists late-October-to-April Romantic Danube dates that include February, so a Danube sailing is possible — ask about it. The Nile and the Mekong are the two rivers at peak this month.

Is February a good month for a first cruise?

Yes, and the Caribbean is where we'd point a first-timer: peak conditions, 13 departure ports and 41 ports of call on our map. The Mexican Riviera is the West Coast equivalent, with three departure ports and the same winter peak.

Which regions are quieter in February?

The open-not-peak six: the Western Mediterranean, Northern Europe's winter loops, Hawaii & South Pacific, Norway's coastal voyages, the Galápagos and winter transatlantic crossings. The Galápagos is the one to look at — warm season, calmer seas and the busiest stretch just behind it.

Is February the end of the Antarctica season?

No, the end of the peak. Expedition ships depart from late October to March, and the Brazil and Argentina coastal season runs to April. Landings are conditional on weather, ice and permits in February as in every month.
